Hiroshima Prefecture has launched the “D-EGGS Project,” an acceleration program that invites ideas for redefining the new normal through the use of digital technology and conducts demonstration experiments to realize them in the “Hiroshima Sandbox,” which has been part of the prefecture’s efforts to promote digital transformation. The program invites proposals for solutions (products, applications, services, etc.) that adapt to new lifestyles, such as online, from all over the country in light of the changes in the social environment that have made it essential to take measures against three densities. The project supports the development of prototypes through co-creation by players from inside and outside of the prefecture, as well as demonstration experiments in the prefecture’s fields.

The main objective of Seatec Hiroshima, a sustainable ocean platform that we are aiming to realize, is to update everything related to the world’s oceans. Hiroshima is one of the few municipalities in Japan that combines the fishing, manufacturing, and shipbuilding industries, and it is a rare region that has accumulated some of the best technology and history in Japan. Hiroshima is one of the few municipalities in Japan that combines fisheries, manufacturing, and shipbuilding.

Currently, the D-EGGS project is in a brush-up period, and we are conducting hearings and developing prototypes based in Hiroshima. The number of team members has also increased, and the project has become a place for co-creation among innovators from diverse backgrounds and generations. We hope you will continue to support us as we work towards the final selection while deepening our cooperation with all related parties.

Below are some details about Seatec HIROSHIMA, a sustainable marine fisheries platform.

Business Outline

By combining blue light-emitting diodes and other advanced Japanese technologies, we are working to solve the problems that barnacles pose to the fishing industry and update the world’s fisheries. Barnacles have been considered an inseparable part of the fishing industry, as they adhere to the bottoms of fishing vessels and inhibit the growth of cultured fish and shellfish. In addition, in Japan, where the population is aging, the physical work of removing barnacles by hand is very taxing, and sustainable business operations are becoming increasingly difficult. Through the active use of a variety of advanced technologies, we aim to remove barnacles and transform the fishing industry from a labor-intensive to a knowledge-intensive one.

Synergy with Hiroshima

Hiroshima has a combination of fisheries, manufacturing, and shipbuilding industries, and there are few municipalities in Japan that meet the same requirements. We would like to work on businesses that make the most of the natural and economic assets that Hiroshima Prefecture possesses, and we believe that we can create synergies together that cannot be created elsewhere. We believe that together we can create synergies that cannot be created elsewhere. The various mechanisms and businesses created will be reproducible, and will be widely deployed around the world as “Seatec HIROSHIMA,” making Hiroshima a leading region in the fisheries industry.

The 30 ideas that are finally selected for this project will be subjected to demonstration experiments through a detailed acceleration program. Up to 13 million yen will be provided to cover the necessary expenses for these demonstration experiments. In addition, if a company or organization outside of Hiroshima Prefecture is selected, it can use the “Hiroshima Office Planning Subsidy Project “A Little Hiroshima Prefecture”” to subsidize the actual costs of up to 10 million yen for transportation, accommodation, office rent, etc. necessary for the demonstration experiment in Hiroshima Prefecture.
The budget has an upper limit, so please refer to the following URL for details.

(2) Aiming to create an ecosystem with Hiroshima as its stage
We will implement an acceleration program based on a long-term vision. This project aims to create an innovation ecosystem with Hiroshima Prefecture as its stage. By matching human resources and companies from inside and outside of the prefecture with a focus on regional characteristics and regional issues, we aim to promote innovation and create a Hiroshima Prefecture with a concentration of advanced industries and human resources.

(3) Setting up adoption quotas from multiple angles to discover and foster diverse ideas
We will design a program that provides opportunities for ideas to be adopted not only by existing large companies and start-up companies, but also by the entire nation. Specifically, we will set up application quotas for technical college students nationwide, and adopt special quotas that will be determined by public evaluation, etc., in anticipation of support that values potential.

(4) Assigning a secretariat to materialize the long-term concept
The organization of the secretariat for this project consists of companies that bridge Hiroshima and Tokyo, and will operate the secretariat by making use of their respective characteristics. The secretariat of this project is made up of companies that bridge Hiroshima and Tokyo, and will operate the secretariat using the characteristics of each company.
For more details, please refer to the outline of the secretariat below.

(5) Seeking ecosystem partners and sponsors to support the entire project
We are seeking ecosystem partners and official sponsors to participate in the acceleration program, which will provide comprehensive support for the various players in the demonstration experiment and contribute to the formation of a long-term ecosystem. This will improve the accuracy of the demonstration experiments and raise the probability of growth, such as the commercialization of the solicited ideas.
For more information, please contact the secretariat.
